Turda Gorges in the Trascaului Mountains
(2002)
A day's trip from Cluj-Napoca, the Turda Gorges (Cheile Turzii) offer more than just a good hike. This karstic terrain traversed by the Hasdate River is also one of the most famous natural reserves in the Apuseni, reputedly home to over a thousand species of plants. As an additional attraction, you are most likely to see paragliders -- the area is one of their favorite hunts in the region.

Driving from Cluj, you'll get to Turda in no time, and then watch out for signs indicating direction to the Gorges. The two hills split by the river will soon loom in the distance. You will start your hike at Cabana Cheile Turzii, at 450m. The two hills peak at 760m and 794m.

Enjoy!
