Property of the people of Brasov since the 14th century and later, in the first half of the 20th century, residence of Queen Marie and her daughter Princess Ileana, respectively, Bran Castle is visited year after year by droves of tourists who hope to find here Dracula’s Castle. The 15th-century prince never lived here, however, and his association with the building is that he attacked it once in 1460. For all that, however, Bran Castle does offer the visitor both a Gothic building and a Romantic landscape, rising as it is on a hill surrounded by forests and mountains. Since the 1920s, the castle is also surrounded by a beautiful park, designed by Karel Liman, a Czech architect who worked at Peles Castle and Bran Castle, and later decided to spend the rest of his life in Romania.
