To those of us in school in Romania under communism,
this is more than just a nature shot. Each fall we roamed parks and alleys
in search of chestnut trees. I think we were
responsible for two large bags of chestnuts each.

Herastrau Park lies in the northern part of the city, near the Metro station Aviatorilor. If you feel up to it, you can try walking around the lake.

It will take you an hour and a half to two hours to circle the lake. You can stop at Herastrau Restaurant for a brief snack or a full-fledged meal. In September 2005, a salad with desert and bottled water cost some $7, including tip.
